I've been sitting on this info for a while but on the concept of 'better late than never' here goes: The sound system in W123 wagons is horrible. The speakers are small, odd shaped and the radios are lacking in 'modern features' like a CD player or mp3 capability. Sedans are only marginally better - simply because there is much more flexibility for replacing rear speakers.

The Becker radios were usable when new but I haven't seen one in ages that has a working display. The faders are all dirty enough now that they need to be removed and cleaned or replaced. I'm not even going to mention the antennas. So I replaced the system in my 300TD and I did it while spending very little money. The first thing that I did was purchase a replacement radio.
